Toa Payoh Central Guanyin tree shrine 慈恩阁 is no more

Photo of the shrine in my post of February 5, 2012

Photo taken on October 8, 2013

The Today Online newspaper reported on the collapse of the tree (dated September 12, 2013)  : "A banyan tree in Toa Payoh Central known by residents for its picturesque “hanging roots” collapsed this afternoon (Sept 12), falling on several cars parked nearby and damaging a small shrine built among its roots... The Tree Shrine is said to have been built around 1969, and draws many devotees on special occasions. As of this evening, workers were still cutting up the fallen tree and removing it in parts."
